ACC. No. 1830.220
Department of Natural Philosophy
Source: Esper, 1830. Full plate, restored.

A matte print of the complete plate, offered in five sizes. Fig. 1, Ascanius. Fig. 2, Antimachus, whose likeness serves as the device of the College. The living specimen's wingspan falls short of even the smallest print offered here, a margin the College considers dignified.

Provenance
The plate is a hand-colored engraving of Papilio antimachus by Esper, engraved by J.C. Bock, published 1830, now in the public domain. This impression from the Smithsonian Libraries copy, formerly the collection of William Schaus, presented to the U.S. National Museum in 1905. The restoration cleaned the sheet and extended its margins; the engraving itself has not been altered. The engraver's mark is recorded here rather than on the sheet, where the Registrar felt it was owed better placement.

Condition
The sheet's age is reproduced deliberately. Frame behind glass and keep out of direct sun.
